Polar Bear Club Plunge

Every Sunday during the winter, the Coney Island Polar Bears plunge into the Atlantic for a good cold slap. "We never cancel a swim because of the weather," says Margaret Farley, at right. Meteorologists, though, react to the slightest fluctuations in temperature: One degree can mean the difference between a bit of rain or a lot of snow.
