Martian Dunes

Photo: Martian dunes
Passing over Herschel basin, the Mars Global Surveyor's (MGS) high-resolution camera photographed this unusual desert, with dunes that appear to be frozen in place. MGS images have intensified debates about the role of water and the chances of finding life on Mars. Said one scientist: "The biggest thing to come out of the MGS images is bafflement."
