Glen Canyon

Photo: Canyon walls and river
Along the Escalante River in Utah's dramatic Glen Canyon, two-toned cliffs display pale calcite deposits left by water that once lapped the rock. Every year, waterways in the canyon lose vast amounts of water to seepage and evaporation, exposing wide swaths of the streaked canyon walls.
